Launch of Help Line in Scotland on Elder Abuse

The Scottish arm of the Elder Abuse Response helpline was launched today. People  can call 080 8808 8141 for advice and information from a locally based, trained person. Just as in cases of child abuse, family dynamics can blur abuse and there is a high reluctance to disclose it. Even when it is uncovered, many people don’t want any action taken. Abuse can be hidden because the victim is often reliant on their abusers for care, family connectedness and sometimes even for accommodation. However, this service opens a window to people who find themselves in such a sorry situation to talk to someone about their predicament and perhaps be helped to challenge the abuser and stop it by changing the power dynamics.
